National Funding

As part of the federal government’s Children and Youth Plan, the German Sports Youth (dsj) awards grants for children’s and youth sports programs and for youth engagement. Funding is provided for courses, workshops, small-scale activities, other initiatives, and, in some cases, personnel costs. The funding is intended to further develop children’s and youth programs, encourage young people to get involved, and facilitate their participation.

Only certain member organizations of the dsj are eligible to apply. These include the youth organizations of the national umbrella organizations and sports federations with special responsibilities. In the case of funding for youth engagement, state sports youth organizations may also submit applications. Individual sports clubs are not directly eligible to apply.

Small-scale activities can be funded with up to €1,000, and certain media-related activities with up to €3,000. For eligible staff positions, the grant covers up to 50 percent of the base salary. Purely competitive events, tournaments, training camps, as well as tourist trips and recreational or leisure activities are excluded.
