About the Program
The Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion supports cultural heritage institutions based in Berlin in digitizing outstanding or highly sought-after cultural assets. Eligible applicants include archives, libraries, museums, and memorial sites.
Funding is provided for the entire digitization process—from inventorying and cataloging, through data management, digitization, and online publication, to the development of educational programs and the long-term preservation of digital data.
A coherent overall concept for the project is required. Digitization must not have begun prior to submitting the application. Applicants must register their institution with the German Digital Library and be listed in the State of Berlin’s transparency database. Projects are selected through a jury process and receive technical support during implementation from the Berlin Research and Competence Center for Digitization (digiS).
