What is it about?

With the call for funding "Berlin lebt Europa" (Berlin lives Europe), the Berlin Senate Chancellery supports projects and campaigns that bring Europe to life in everyday life. The aim is to communicate European values, basic principles and cohesion at a low threshold and to encourage different target groups to actively engage with Europe.

Funding will be provided for time-limited projects that are implemented in Berlin in 2026 and can be clearly assigned to one of the defined areas of action. Funding is provided as a voluntary project grant from the state of Berlin; there is no legal entitlement.

What is supported?

Funding is available for specific project measures and activities, including workshops, events, creative formats, educational programmes or publicly accessible hands-on activities. The projects must have a clear European connection and fit in with the objectives of the respective action area.

Funding is provided as a project grant within the framework of shortfall financing. An own contribution of at least 10% of the total costs is required in all areas of action.

Travel activities, e.g. school exchanges, town twinning trips or trips to Brussels, Strasbourg or other European regions are not eligible for funding.

Action areas

The funding is divided into five action areas. Each application must be clearly assigned to an area and fulfil its content requirements:

Low-threshold individual campaigns (Berlin Europe Weeks)

Funding will be provided for everyday activities during the Berlin Europe Weeks (30 April-31 May 2026) that make European ideas, values and identity visible. The aim is the broadest possible local distribution, ideally at least one project per district.

Europe Days and EU project weeks at schools

The programme supports projects at Berlin schools that communicate European topics in a youth-oriented, playful and age-appropriate way. These include project days, school activities or themed weeks with an EU connection.

Multilingual EU actions

The programme supports activities that make Europe's linguistic diversity visible, promote exchange and strengthen European cohesion. Multilingualism is a central element of the programme.

Including EU actions

This area is aimed at projects that bring Europe to life for people with physical, cognitive, sensory or mental disabilities and break down barriers.

EU actions by young people for young people

Funding is provided for projects that are developed and implemented together with young people for young people. The formats should be low-threshold, impart knowledge and enable young people to help shape the programme.

Who can submit an application?

Natural and legal persons based in Berlin, for example associations, initiatives, independent providers of European political education, foundations, organisations or non-profit limited liability companies, are eligible to apply.

Depending on the area of action, additional requirements apply, such as cooperation with schools or recognition in accordance with § 75 SGB VIII. Berlin administrative organisations are not eligible to apply.
