The Bezirkstaler primarily recognizes commitment that often goes unnoticed—beyond well-known clubs and organizations. It honors the small, everyday acts of kindness that arise, for example, through neighborhood activities, neighborly help, or community initiatives. It also honors individuals who have been particularly active in short-term campaigns, as well as small groups of people who work together to make a difference. In the past, the Bezirkstaler was awarded in individual cases as a token of appreciation. It is now firmly established as an integral part of the civic engagement strategy in the Lichtenberg district. Nominations may be submitted via email to the Organizational Unit for Social Planning by initiatives, associations, companies, individuals, or institutions and must be well-reasoned.
