Data Protection Media Award (DAME)

[Translate to English:] Foto: Dan Nelson, Unsplash

The Data Protection Media Award (DAME) is a nationwide competition based in Berlin that annually recognizes media outlets for their efforts to explain the topic of data protection in an accessible way and raise awareness of it. You can enter the competition with submissions in the form of videos, podcasts, written pieces, or other media formats. The prize is worth €3,000 and aims to promote the secure handling of personal data.

The Data Protection Media Award focuses on how the media make the complex world of data protection understandable to the public. Entries should explain why data protection is important and how to use one’s data securely. The award aims to highlight media formats that explain data protection topics in a clear and accessible way, thereby promoting the secure handling of personal data. The award is intended to increase public interest in data protection.

You can participate as a filmmaker, media professional, journalist, creative professional, or as part of an initiative, youth group, or organization—if you’ve created a piece related to data protection. Schools may also submit entries.

The competition is held annually. Submissions can be sent via email or mail. The award is supported by privacy4people gGmbH, the DATEV Foundation for the Future, the German Donations Council, and klicksafe.
