Since 2000, the Berlin State Commission Against Violence has presented the Berlin Prevention Award. The award is intended to recognize and support outstanding achievements in the field of violence and crime prevention. The award ceremony takes place once a year during Berlin Prevention Day. Eligible applicants include clubs, associations, organizations, schools, institutions, government agencies, initiatives, and citizens of all ages. Since 2019, the award has been presented to artistic and cultural projects implemented by or for young people in Berlin. Art and culture make an important contribution to violence prevention. The award is intended to highlight and honor these achievements. Artists, cultural institutions, and art collectives—with their creative and violence-preventive ideas—should become better known throughout Berlin, strengthen the ideals of democracy, and thus contribute to an open and peaceful society in Berlin.
