2026 Lotte Lemke Award for Community Service

The 2026 Lotte Lemke Engagement Award is a nationwide volunteer award presented by the AWO Federal Association. It honors volunteer projects that have a tangible impact on children, combat loneliness, or promote humane migration policies. The award highlights exemplary initiatives that bring social values such as solidarity and cohesion to the forefront. The award ceremony took place at the AWO’s New Year’s reception in Berlin.

With the Lotte Lemke Engagement Award, the AWO honors volunteers and their projects that promote social cohesion in concrete ways—for example, through programs for children, initiatives to combat loneliness, or efforts to support a humane migration policy.

The award recognizes volunteer initiatives, projects, or campaigns by the AWO that make a tangible contribution to society and put values such as solidarity into practice in everyday life. The award raises awareness of these impactful projects, demonstrates how volunteer work addresses social issues, and honors people who stand up for others.

The award is presented during an AWO New Year’s reception in Berlin.

NAJU (Naturschutzjugend im NABU)

In the nationwide “Erlebter Frühling” contest, children up to age 13 explore nature in their local area. Individual children, groups of children, school classes, and daycare groups can participate. Entries are judged based on various criteria, including creativity, relevance to the theme, and the children’s involvement. Winning entries receive a nature adventure day.

Bundesministerium für Bildung, Familie, Senioren, Frauen und Jugend (BMBFSFJ)

For the first time, the German Community Award recognizes projects, initiatives, and organizations that combat loneliness and strengthen social cohesion. Eligible applicants include civil society initiatives, clubs, associations, as well as municipalities and public institutions. The award is presented in four categories and includes prize money.

Gesellschaft für Medienpädagogik (GMK)

The Dieter Baacke Prize recognizes media education projects that help children, teenagers, and families use media creatively and critically. Extracurricular projects, as well as collaborations between school-based and extracurricular organizations, are eligible to apply. The prize is awarded nationwide in six categories.

Bezirksamt Reinickendorf von Berlin

With the Dieter-Braunsdorf Medal, the Reinickendorf district honors individuals who volunteer to support sports in the district. The award is presented annually in bronze, silver, and gold. In 2026, for the first time, volunteers under the age of 27 will also be eligible for the award. Sports clubs and organizations in Reinickendorf can nominate individuals by March 31.
