What's it about?
The Work and Research Grant supports individual professional artists in the performing arts and dance in Berlin who wish to develop new ideas or conduct research. Funding is provided for self-selected projects such as research, preliminary work on a topic, or experimenting with new working techniques. Depending on the scope of your project, you can apply for 4,000, 6,000, or 8,000 euros; payments will be made in installments of 2,000 euros each (expected to begin in July 2026). Online applications must be submitted by March 11, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.

Applications must be submitted online by 3:00 p.m. on March 11, 2026, at the latest; after 3:00 p.m., it will no longer be possible to submit an application, and any submissions in progress will be terminated. The application period begins on January 20, 2026. Only complete and formally valid applications will be considered; missing documents will not be requested at a later date. Awards will be made based on the recommendation of an independent jury.

What is covered?
Support is provided for projects that you, as an individual artist, define yourself to further develop your work. These include, for example, research and investigation, preparatory work on a topic, or experimenting with new techniques. The grant is intended as a lump sum (4,000, 6,000, or 8,000 euros) and is expected to be paid out in monthly installments of 2,000 euros starting in July 2026.
Who can submit an application?
Eligible applicants are professionally trained and/or professionally active individuals in the performing arts and dance who live and work in Berlin. This includes, among other things, dance and choreography, acting and performance, puppet and marionette theater, directing and dramaturgy, as well as set and costume design; contemporary circus is also included. Groups or civil law partnerships (GbR) are not eligible to apply, nor are individuals who are enrolled in a degree program or hold a professorship at the time of application. Projects in the field of film and television are excluded.
