The WikiEule honours volunteer work that contributes to the quality, visibility or further development of the German-language Wikipedia and its sister projects .
Individuals, groups, projects or workshops from the Wikipedia environment, including authors, photographers and community initiatives, are honoured.
The award makes voluntary digital commitment visible and strengthens the recognition of contributions to free knowledge . It supports a culture of appreciation within the Wikipedia community.
The WikiEule has been awarded annually since 2014. Nominations come from the community and the selection is made by an annually changing jury.
The application deadline is June 2026.
The award ceremony usually takes place during WikiCon on 19 September 2026.
