The Pankow Environmental Award is based on a resolution passed by the district council in 2002. It is awarded annually by the district council and the Pankow district office of Berlin and is endowed with prize money totalling 3,000 euros. In addition, the "Golden Toad" award is presented as a travelling prize to a particularly outstanding project.
