The prize is awarded by the Neukölln district office together with the Neukölln Engagement Centre (NEZ) and is aimed at community-oriented projects in Neukölln. The Neukölln Commitment Award is a competition in which projects in the field of "voluntary commitment" are honoured in three categories: Volunteer Award, Sponsorship Award and Thematic Award. Each category is endowed with €1,500. One of the categories, the themed prize, is sponsored annually by the Neukölln Business Network. The winners are selected by a jury chaired by the district mayor. The public announcement of the award winners takes place as part of the district's engagement gala. The NEZ offers a consultation hour to answer questions about the application process.
