Every year, the mayor of Neukölln and the Neukölln Engagement Centre honour Neukölln residents for their voluntary work. The volunteers are nominated for the award by the organisations they are involved with. Each organisation active in Neukölln can nominate a maximum of two people. The award ceremony takes place as part of the festive "Neuköllner Engagement Gala".
