The prize honours people and groups who actively promote tolerance, humanity, freedom and democratic values . It honours commitment that contributes to education about the Holocaust and anti-Semitism - for example in schools, universities, associations or citizens' initiatives. The Margot Friedländer Prize is intended to highlight commitment that strengthens democracy and breaks down prejudice. The prize money is intended to enable award winners to continue and expand their commitment.
Individuals, initiatives, school projects and non-profit organisations based in Germany that are committed to the objectives of the prize can apply or be nominated.
