The Bezirkstaler primarily honours commitment that often remains invisible - away from well-known associations and organisations. It recognises the small, good deeds that happen every day, for example through activities in the neighbourhood, neighbourly help or initiatives. It also honours people who have been particularly active in temporary campaigns, as well as small groups of people who work together. In the past, the Bezirkstaler was awarded in individual cases as a token of gratitude. In the meantime, it has become an integral part of the engagement strategy in the district of Lichtenberg. Proposals can be submitted by initiatives, associations, companies, individuals or institutions by e-mail to the organisational unit for social planning and must be well-founded.
