The district badge is primarily awarded to people who have rendered outstanding services to the district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, its partnerships, organisations or individual citizens over a long period of time, particularly in the areas of social affairs, culture, business, politics or sport. Anyone can nominate people they consider worthy of receiving the district badge. The proposal must be addressed to the district mayor and must be substantiated in detail. The district mayor decides on the award. The badge is awarded in three categories: Gold, Silver or Bronze. There is no legal entitlement to the award or the right to contest the award.
