Senate Department for the Interior and Sport
The Berlin State Commission against Violence has been awarding the Berlin Prevention Prize since 2000. The prize is intended to recognise and support special achievements in the field of violence and crime prevention. The award ceremony takes place once a year at the Berlin Prevention Day. Clubs, associations, organisations, schools, institutions, authorities, initiatives and citizens of all ages can apply. Since 2019, the prize has been awarded to artistic and cultural projects that are realised by or for young people in Berlin. Art and culture make an important contribution to the prevention of violence. The prize is intended to make these achievements visible and honour them. Artists, cultural institutions and art collectives with their creative and violence-preventing ideas should become better known throughout Berlin, strengthen the idea of democracy and thus contribute to an open and peaceful society in Berlin.
