Alliance for Courage and Understanding (members include the Senate Chancellery and the Senate Department for Labour, Social Affairs, Equality, Integration, Diversity and Anti-Discrimination)

The joint award from the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg has been presented since 1993. Following the racist attacks in Hoyerswerda, both federal states wanted to set an example against racism, marginalisation and violence. The award honours initiatives and people who are committed to peaceful coexistence. Those honoured should motivate and encourage others to also stand up against exclusion and violence and for tolerance.
